In late 2024, we won the design competition for the new bus station in Zamora, organized by the Directorate General of Transportation of the Regional Government of Castile and León. The project is currently in the design phase.

The site occupies an entire city block, surrounded by roads on all four sides and featuring a steep slope between the upper street—where the main entrance is located—and the lower street, where buses enter. This difference in elevation was the most significant accessibility issue to be addressed, and also served as the starting point for the project.

The design is organized on a single level and structured around three elements. The linear, glass-enclosed passenger services building runs parallel to the upper street and serves as the main public-facing space. The L-shaped platform area wraps around the switching yard and opens visually toward the city. Between the two, a transverse volume becomes the project’s main feature: a large skylight that bridges the level difference, regulates the entry of natural light through micro-perforated aluminum louvers, and houses a tiered waiting area from which the entire station is visually dominated.

The roof, treated as a fifth facade, takes on a monumental scale when viewed from the street below and a more domestic presence when viewed from above. A public building that prioritizes light, accessibility, and a contemporary aesthetic within a neighborhood of high-rise residential buildings.
