Three Decades of Architecture from Soria

Calonge-Ruiz Arquitectos was founded in 1995, although Carlos Calonge Mugueta (Pamplona, 1963) and Inmaculada Ruiz Orte (Soria, 1964) had already been working as associate architects since 1993. Both graduated from the School of Architecture at the University of Navarra—Inmaculada in 1989 and Carlos in 1990—and are members of the Official Association of Architects of Eastern Castile and León, Soria Chapter.

For nearly three decades, we have been designing architectural and urban planning projects as independent professionals, balancing our studio work with providing urban planning consulting services to various municipalities and participating in architectural competitions, sometimes in collaboration with other architects.

Mission:

To create functional, well-designed architecture that engages with its surroundings and improves the lives of those who inhabit it, whether it be a home, a public facility, a renovation project, or the planning of a municipality.

Vision:

To continue, project by project, developing an approach to architecture that combines the lessons of building traditions with the possibilities offered by new technologies and energy efficiency.

Values:

Simplicity, harmony, and technical precision, integrating vernacular architecture and new technologies to serve the site and the client.

A new chapter

In 2022, Inmaculada Ruiz joined the Almazán City Council as Municipal Architect and stopped working on projects at the firm. Since then, Carlos Calonge has been running the firm on his own, with the support of collaborating professionals. The firm has taken on new challenges, such as the energy-efficient renovation of buildings, and continues to work on new construction projects—both public and private—as well as participating in design competitions.

How We Understand Architecture

In the design of our projects, we seek to integrate references to vernacular architecture with the exploration of new forms and technologies. This approach to design strives for simplicity and harmony, resulting in well-built structures that are sensitive to their surroundings and serve the needs of their inhabitants.
